David Weld Sanctuary - Nissequogue, NY

This evening I felt like a sunset hike, so I ventured over to David Weld Sanctuary up on the north shore of Long Island. This is a hidden gem and worth the drive for the peaceful serenity it offers away from the hustle and bustle of every day life living on LI. Once you get on to River Road it is a beautiful short drive along the Nissequogue River. A quiet oasis of vibrant greens greet you along the sides of the road. If there was anywhere I'd love to live on Long Island, it would be on this road, with a kayak in tow.

The park itself offers 3 miles of wooded trails with gorgeous views of the LI sound. After hiking, you can relax on the beach and dip your toes in the water.

Wildlife: Along the sand dunes of the beach you will see holes with birds flying in and out of the homes they created. You may see deer as well on the backwoods trails.

Very few moments in life can be captured tangibly forever, to live on only in our hearts.

Treasure your moment in the trail of a sun's glow.

Shells!

Recommended book: In the Smoky Air by Alok Joddha Hernandez
This is a great book for young adults who love nature and love in general. It talks much about the woods of the Shawangunk region, which is a beautiful region that I will be sure to post hikes about in the future.
